Cookie policy
Last updated June 2026
The cookies and similar technologies the Mercateer website uses, what each one does, how long it lasts, and the ways you can control them.
What this policy covers
This policy covers cookies and similar technologies (such as localStorage) that the Mercateer website places on or reads from your device. The Mercateer application additionally sets strictly necessary sign-in cookies, provided by our authentication provider Clerk, to keep you signed in.
It does not cover phone calls or message content: those are covered by the privacy policy and, for businesses, the data processing agreement.
The cookies we use
Strictly necessary: Cloudflare, which protects the site from malicious traffic, sets a security cookie (__cf_bm, expires after about 30 minutes) to distinguish people from bots. We also store your cookie choice itself in localStorage. The site works without any other cookies; your language version is determined by the page address, not a cookie.
Analytics: we use PostHog to understand how the site and product are used and to capture errors, including session replays of visits. When analytics is on, PostHog stores an identifier on your device (a cookie or localStorage entry beginning with ph_, retained for up to 365 days) served from our own domain.
We do not currently use advertising cookies. If we introduce them, we will update this policy first and ask for any consent the law requires before they are set. We do not share data collected by these technologies with third parties for their marketing.
Consent
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, analytics stays off until you accept it in the cookie banner; declining keeps analytics off and only your choice itself is stored. Elsewhere, analytics is on by default and you can turn it off at any time.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, analytics stays off regardless of region. Our practices do not otherwise vary in response to Do Not Track signals, which have no settled meaning.
You can change your choice at any time using the "Manage cookies" link in the footer of every page, which reopens the cookie banner.
Analytics and session replay
Analytics data includes pages visited, device and browser information, and interactions such as clicks and scrolling. Session replays reconstruct how a page was used so we can fix problems and improve the experience; they are used internally only.
Error monitoring (Sentry) does not set cookies; it receives technical details about errors your browser encounters.
Managing cookies
Use the "Manage cookies" link in the footer to accept or decline analytics at any time. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; all major browsers let you refuse new cookies, delete existing ones, or warn you before a cookie is set.
Blocking the strictly necessary cookie may affect access to the site while our security provider verifies your browser. Turning off analytics does not affect how the site works.
Changes and contact
We review this policy when our use of cookies changes and will post updates on this page with a new date above. Questions can be sent to [email protected] or through the contact form on this site.
