How does Mercateer work with Claude Code?

Mercateer runs a public MCP server. One claude mcp add command registers it over streamable HTTP, and Claude Code can then call Mercateer tools to read calls and contacts, quote from your price book, and book jobs, straight from your terminal.

Can I scope Mercateer to a single project?

Yes. claude mcp add registers the server for you by default. Pass --scope project to write it to a project .mcp.json so it only loads in that repo.

What does Claude Code need to authenticate?

Sign-in uses your Mercateer account over OAuth. Run /mcp, choose Mercateer, and approve access in the browser. The token is stored for you, so there are no API keys to paste into the terminal.

Which Mercateer plan do I need?

API and MCP access is included on the Crew and Fleet plans. You can start building free to set up your agent, then upgrade to connect Claude Code.

Are there rate limits?

Yes. API requests are rate-limited per caller (about 60 requests per minute per API key or connected agent). If you exceed the limit you get an RFC 9457 problem response with a Retry-After header, so the agent can back off and retry.

Can I give an agent read-only access?

Read-only scoping works through API keys, which each carry an explicit scope list, so you can issue a read-only key for lookups and a separate read-write key for agents that book jobs or update contacts. Note that the OAuth sign-in these agents use grants the agent the same full account access you have in the dashboard, so to keep an agent read-only you would connect it with a scoped API key rather than OAuth. Either way, actions that spend money or change live settings still pause for your confirmation.

What happens to my data?

Your calls, contacts, and pricing stay in your Mercateer organization. Agents act through scoped OAuth tokens or API keys, every request is logged, and actions that spend money or change live settings require your confirmation. Nothing is used to train a shared model.
