How does Mercateer work with Cursor?

Mercateer runs a public MCP server. You add it to Cursor's mcp.json, and Cursor's Agent can then call Mercateer tools to read calls and contacts, quote from your price book, and book appointments, without leaving the editor.

Global vs. project scope, which should I use?

Global (~/.cursor/mcp.json) is best if you regularly jump between repos. Project scope (.cursor/mcp.json) is best when only one repo's tasks involve Mercateer.

Does Cursor cache tool definitions?

Yes. Cursor caches the tool list at MCP-connect time. If we add new tools, hit Refresh in Cursor Settings, then Tools & MCP, to pick them up.

Which Mercateer plan do I need?

API and MCP access is included on the Crew and Fleet plans. You can start building free to set up your agent, then upgrade to connect Cursor.

Are there rate limits?

Yes. API requests are rate-limited per caller (about 60 requests per minute per API key or connected agent). If you exceed the limit you get an RFC 9457 problem response with a Retry-After header, so the agent can back off and retry.

Can I give an agent read-only access?

Read-only scoping works through API keys, which each carry an explicit scope list, so you can issue a read-only key for lookups and a separate read-write key for agents that book jobs or update contacts. Note that the OAuth sign-in these agents use grants the agent the same full account access you have in the dashboard, so to keep an agent read-only you would connect it with a scoped API key rather than OAuth. Either way, actions that spend money or change live settings still pause for your confirmation.

What happens to my data?

Your calls, contacts, and pricing stay in your Mercateer organization. Agents act through scoped OAuth tokens or API keys, every request is logged, and actions that spend money or change live settings require your confirmation. Nothing is used to train a shared model.

Authorize from Cursor

Open Cursor Settings, then Tools & MCP, and click Refresh next to the Mercateer entry. Cursor opens the OAuth flow in your browser. There are no API keys to paste.

Reference Mercateer in chat

In Cursor chat, mention the Mercateer MCP server with @mercateer or just describe what you want and Cursor picks the right tools, pausing for your approval on anything that spends money or changes a live setting.
